For some years, it was becoming difficult to manage the two events, running under the title of FESTIVAL and GRAND PRIX. After serious reflection, the FIM and the Grand Prix decided to consolidate the two, into one annual event; The Grand Prix Petro-Canada de Valcourt, (GPPCV). This major event was soon to be considered as the biggest event of the season by the assembly of winter motosports and snowmobilers.

The Ice hotel was the emblem of the FIM. Yvon Guay, a masonsary well known in the area, and his team took charge of the building of the hotel for a number of years. Sadly the last years, 1991 and 1992, it became too difficult to keep the ice hotel at the optimal temperature due to global warming.
