The 11, 12, 13th of February 1983 would be the first edition of the FIM, with Bombardier immediately giving their name as a major partner. The success was instant. Ten of thousands of snowmobilers from across North America converged in Valcourt. Never before had we managed to attract so many snowmobilers to the same place in a single weekend. The enthusiasm was at a high. It was, at the time, the largest gathering of snowmobilers in the history of the sport. Snowmobilers invaded the region\u2019s trails and all the streets of Valcourt were especially designed as trails for snowmobiles.<\/p>\n

The occasion of the first Festival International de la Motoneige, (FIM), Ronald Wilson Reagan, the president of the United States at the time, had sent a letter of honour on a silver plaque. In return, the FIM sent him the official flag of Canada and the flag of the FIM, which was next to the American Flag at the festival. It was an immense honour for the city of Valcourt!<\/p>\n

Les 11, 12 et 13 f\u00e9vrier 1983 avait lieu la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition du FIM, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Bombardier qui a imm\u00e9diatement donn\u00e9 son appui au projet \u00e0 titre de partenaire majeur. Le succ\u00e8s fut instantan\u00e9. Des dizaines de milliers de motoneigistes venus de partout en Am\u00e9rique du Nord ont converg\u00e9 vers Valcourt. Jamais encore on n\u2019avait r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 attirer autant de motoneigistes au m\u00eame endroit, en une seule fin de semaine. L\u2019enthousiasme \u00e9tait \u00e0 son comble. Il s\u2019agissait, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, du plus grand rassemblement de motoneigistes dans l\u2019histoire de ce sport. Les motoneigistes envahirent les sentiers de la r\u00e9gion et toutes les rues de Valcourt furent sp\u00e9cialement am\u00e9nag\u00e9es en sentiers pour les motoneiges.<\/p>

\u00c0 l\u2019occasion du premier festival international de la motoneige (FIM), Ronald Wilson Reagan, le pr\u00e9sident des \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, avait envoy\u00e9 une Lettre d\u2019honoration sur plaque d\u2019argent\u2009! En remerciement, le FIM lui avait envoy\u00e9 le drapeau officiel du Canada et le drapeau du FIM qui justement a \u00e9t\u00e9 accroch\u00e9 \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du drapeau am\u00e9ricain durant le festival. Un immense honneur pour la Ville de Valcourt et le comit\u00e9 organisateur !<\/p>
