David Wahl won his first world champion title on his twin tracker sponsored by Ski-Doo in 1990. Moreover, his first victories on the Yvon-Duhamel Circuit date back to 1988 and 1989 as well as 1993 and 1994. Subsequently, it was his nephew Terry Wahl who year after year will become the invincible winner at Valcourt until 1999. Let us come back to some highlights of those glorious years.

In 1988, it was aboard his very first Ski-Doo double-tracked car that he dominated Formula 1 at Valcourt, remaining at the head of the field during the ten laps of the Labatt Grand Prix. For the second year in a row, he was ahead of Jacques Villeneuve at the finish line with a solid lead throughout the race. From 1990 to 1992, Gary Vessair set a record of three consecutive victories. Moreover, in 1993, when David Wahl narrowly preceded Gary Vessair at the finish line, the defeat was bitter for Gary Vessair who rejected the validation of the images of the photo-finish. In the end, David Wahl confirmed his supremacy in 1994 and again beat Gary Vessair by winning all the Formula 1 events at Valcourt. Starting from sixth place, he slowly moved up the positions until he reached first place. In addition, Dave won his second World Championship in 1996 and his third in 1997.

A well-deserved retirement

To wrap up, he retired from racing in the early 2000s, paving the way for his nephew Terry and later his son Dustin, a proud representative of the Wahl family. Even today, David Wahl continues to contribute to the sport as part of the family business Wahl Brothers Racing by modifying snowmobiles, as he has done throughout his career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
